WIFI Digital Poster Perfect For the Restroom

WIFI Digital Poster Perfect For the Restroom

By Dave Bradley

LCD advertising screen technology has been with us for the past six or so years and in this time it has grown so much, however there has always been one problem with the budget entry digital signage solution - this is having to manually upload the media, not any more!

Designed for locations that are vulnerable to abuse, one company manufactured the ArmaPoster. It is an all in one solution that guards the digital poster from potential abuse and even theft in bathrooms and nightclubs. Due to the unsupervised nature of these venues and guests the digital poster is wrapped in a protected steel case, it can either be produced from stainless steel or mild steel and powder coated. The stainless steel solution is the easiest to clean and sanitize, perfect for restrooms.

Within the steel case an LCD display is fitted, the most common size is a 32" LCD display in a screen ratio of 16:9, this also has an inbuilt hard disc drive content player with the option to use CF memory cards for local storage of the media.

Media formats supported.

The content player supports video, audio, image, scrolling test, RSS and Flash content, for one of the most flexible dynamic signage solutions available.

• Video formats are: MPEG-1, MPEG-2, MP at ML up to 13Mbps, MPEG-4, and ASP

• Audio format: MP3

• Picture format: JPEG and BMP

• Scrolling message (ticker) horizontal and vertical message with transparency

• Adjustable speed, font and background colour

• High definition: (HD) 720P

• Portrait mode: (vertical display) supported

• Background picture: supported

• Multiple zones display supports

• Maximum 7 zones on screen

Hardware specification.

The content player is non computer based, with a 2.5" 60GB hard disc (CF card operational - optional). The unit has a 10/100Mbps Ethernet connection for direct wiring to a computer network as well as the facility to operate wirelessly using 3G, 802.11b/g or even GPRS using an external WIFI router (optional extra), ideal for updating content throughout the network. The media player also has 2 x USB connectors.

The unit has 2 built in 10 Watt speakers, and the unit is powered by 110 to 240C AC.

The LCD screen is 32" with a resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels, and a viewing angle of 178 degrees when viewed in either vertical or horizontal mode. The contrast ratios is 800:1 and the brightness is 550cd/m2 or 550 Nits.

Dave owns the leading manufacturer of LCD enclosures, this range of flat screen enclosure are used throughout the world through a network of integrators for outdoor digital signage, as well as digital posters for indoor signage solutions.

Digital Signage - Now Set To Going Mobile

By Dave Bradley

Mobile dynamic advertising ranges from people wearing video vests to LED walls that are on the side of lorries or trailers, learn there uses and where they best fit.

Digital Signage Vests - These comprise of a 17" digital poster that is battery powered and is wearable using a thick gauge vest, this is used for basis media delivery at trade shows and shopping centres.

This is probably the cheapest method of mobile digital signage, but there are limitations for uploading new, fresh media, you have to get everyone together in one area or you have to hunt each wearer out individually, taking extra time to update the media manually.

LED video walls are created using panels of LED's, these panels are approximately 39 3/8" wide by 1 metre high and they are then fitted into a frame, this frame can be attached to uprights either on the side of a truck or trailer to mount the video wall and make it mobile, the best option is to mount it at the rear of the truck and high up, so if anyone runs in the back of the truck it will not get damaged.

These are ideal for Churches to publicise their services and events at Church; by taking the trailer to the local neighbourhood they are targeting the right people - the congregation.

A bank used a similar tactic and drove through peak hour traffic, by driving slowly more potential customers saw the campaign and reacted, the results were that the bank had a 12% increase in their campaign for this specific bank account than they had had on other campaigns just by using the mobile dynamic signage solution.

The unique thing with a video wall is that because it is modular, it can be as big as you like ensuring it will fit in with your budget. The 39 3/8" panels make this a very cost effective solution to outdoor sunlight read able screens.

Dave owns LCD Enclosure Global as well as supplying video walls that range from large banks of screens to gesture recognistion units.

Portable Computer Kiosks

By Kevin Stith

Portable computer kiosks are found to be useful for use within organizations like colleges, bookstores, libraries and the like. The main advantage offered by portable computer kiosks is usage of the same kiosk in different locations. They can be easily moved from place to place without the need for reinstallation or other hardware requirements.

This kind of portability cuts work-time and increases efficiency and productivity levels. Users do not need to go in search of a kiosk located in a particular place within the organization. A portable computer kiosk can be moved from place to place within the premises of an organization according to a fixed schedule. Work can then be scheduled accordingly and time can thus be utilized in an optimum manner.

Portable computer kiosks are in use in college bookstores. They enable students to register for classes, download class schedules, reserve textbooks, and, send and receive emails among other things.

Portable computer kiosks are used widely in tradeshows. Several stalls use portable computer kiosks to tell interested visitors about their product. Product information can be presented in an interesting and personalized manner using portable computer kiosks. The use of real-time 3-D software enables an interesting interactive experience for viewers. The perceived value of a product presented in a sophisticated manner gets enhanced. Many a times this kind of an interactive experience is sufficient to turn prospective customers into actual customers.

Customer friendly interfaces used by portable computer kiosks make it possible to widen their area of applications. Large social service organizations use such kiosks in remote areas where technological advances are not much in vogue.

Portable computer kiosks have solved several logistics problems wherever their use has been implemented. The kind of ease of service provided by portable computer kiosks is akin to the proverbial mountain coming to Mohamed.

The very advantages that makes portable computer kiosks so versatile and applicable in a variety of areas, also adds to their cost. The prohibitive costing restricts wide usage of portable computer kiosks rendering them not so popular.

Digital Posters and LCD Advertising Displays - Knowing the Differences

By Dave Bradley

Some people are confused with the digital advertising solutions that are on offer when used for digital signage indoors, however in this article we will try and eliminate any confusion. Find out which is the most cost effective solution and why and if it would work for you.

Digital Poster.

This is the most cost effective solution available for inside dynamic signage, a digital poster comprises of a commercial LCD display screen with an in built media player that is built in to the rear of the display.

Now with it being the entry level dynamic advertising solution they do have challenges, the main issue is that any media has to be updated manually, by either exchanging the old memory card with a new one that has the fresh, new media already stored on it or through a USB drive that is inserted in to the USB port on the media player - not an ideal solution if you have several digital posters over several sites in different towns and countries.

LCD Advertising screens.

These are usually floor standing and are almost identical in use to a digital poster, but there is an option to make these displays WIFI so that you do not have to go to each location where every poster is to update the content. These can be linked to a Wi-Fi provider such as 3G, using a wireless modem and you can then log in to the content player remotely and updating the content through the Wi-Fi connection.

Both options have the facility to set the units to switch on at a preset time and switch off when the store is empty, lowering power consumption and offering a more power efficient electronic signage solution.

They also have the facility to have scrolling text in different heights, and can scroll in different directions across or up the display.

Hopefully, this has given you some insight in to the products that are available for inside digital advertising that will not leave you feeling as if you have been mugged.

Dave owns the leading LCD enclosure manufacturer for protective outdoor applications, now they have included a range of digital poster, these are commercial grade LCD displays with media players built in, a straight out the box solution.

More Control For Doctors

More Control For Doctors

The new Government is giving general practitioner Doctors more control of doctor’s surgeries. This offers doctors more flexibility in the way their surgeries and departments are run, and allows them to move the practice in the direction that best fits their patients in the area that they provide healthcare for.

However, giving more control to the doctors also means that more responsibility is put on doctor’s surgeries to fulfil all patients’ healthcare needs including health education, information as well as practical healthcare.

Much of the education and health information is freely available within the NHS and on doctor’s surgery websites. Doctors surgeries and health centres have been swift to embrace the internet, realising the opportunity to distribute healthcare information to its patients cheaply and easily.

Most healthcare education is needed in less prosperous areas of society. People from under privileged backgrounds tend to have poorer health and a poorer understanding of the simple changes in lifestyle and diet than can bring better health.

However, a massive 40% of society still doesn’t have access to the internet. Statistics highlight this forty percent to be made up of the elderly and families on low incomes. Sadly these are the people who are most in need of the health education and information that is displayed on doctors and health centres websites.

Drugstore Digital Advertising

By Dave Bradley

Drug stores will be the next industry to adopt dynamic advertising for providing customer information and for selling relevant products. Learn how this is done.

Why do chemists want to invest in electronic advertising?

There are two reasons for investing in digital signage, they are both of equal importance, number one is to provide customer information and the second is to create an opportunity for increasing sales.

Imagine you go to the doctors to seek advice regarding a holiday and you are checking what vaccinations you need, the doctor informs you of the required medication required and you go to the pharmacy to buy them so that you can go back and the doctor will then inject the vaccines.

As you can see this is a perfect opportunity for the drug store to sell you other medications for your future vacation, raising their turnover and profit. The other main reason is also to provide customer information, so that when your prescription is ready to collect you know right away and are not hanging around, also the ads on the digital signage system offer time warping - makes the customers think their wait time was less than it actually was due to them being entertained.

How does it work?

The patient takes their prescription to the drug store and they electronically scan the document, the terminal then pulls out the customers name and includes this in a 'waiting queue' that is shown in a zone on the massive LCD screens that are strategically placed throughout the store.

The patient can either take a seat in a waiting area and watch the TV or peruse the store in order to waste time until their order is ready. During the wait time, ads are displayed for in store products that would be relevant to the type of medications prescribed.

Then when the order is ready, the name is broadcast in the main zone of the display replacing the advertisements and audio then broadcasts the customers name.

How is it done?

Well simply put the pulled out patients name is fed to a media player that stores all the advertising media and the customers name is added to a database list, then as and when the name gets to the top of the list, the ad is stopped and the customers name is then displayed on the 42" LCD commercial screens throughout the drug store. Once the patient has collected their prescription their name is removed from the wait list.

This is also a good opportunity for pharmacies to sell Christmas gifts to customers who are less mobile or who don't get into town to shop often, they can at once see an item and think I could buy that widget for a nephew; this saves them making a special journey at a later date.

Dave owns the leading manufacturer of outdoor digital signage protection in the form of LCD enclosures, this coupled with their range of indoor digital posters makes drugstore digital advertising possible.

How Education Facilities Benefit From Digital Advertising

How Education Facilities Benefit From Digital Advertising

By Dave Bradley

Almost all schools, colleges and even kindergarten educational buildings have the network capability to deploy some kind of dynamic advertising. This replaces the old fashioned static bulletin board, which is overflowing and cluttered with bits of paper - past, present and future, appropriate and otherwise! It is easy on the eye - aesthetically pleasing, easier to monitor and can bring in a high return on investment (ROI) through running advertising campaigns.

Each site reaches a specific appropriate targeted audience, in order to maximise its ROI potential. For example a University can lease out or sell ad space to local clubs, restaurants, beauty salons and shopping malls. The media for these advertisements are easily produced and can be controlled by both in-house network channels or remote and wireless networks. Placing the digital posters in effective locations is crucial to the whole package, where a high traffic area or group of potential visitors are gathered, is a consideration, like the cafeteria, reception and sports hall, providing a high return on capital investment for the campus, as well as being known for its dynamic technology-lead policies. Other uses may be for broadcasting information: dates and times for class changes, graduation ceremonies or emergency procedures (such as campus lockdowns), utilising the digital display in other innovative ways. It also enables students to be addressed by notable speakers and guests, via webcasts on the campus intranet.

Entering the developing world of dynamic signage, via the education network, is opening up new options, through which to create additional income, whilst the expenditure is comparatively low.

Dave owns the leading manufacturer of LCD enclosures, as well as supplying a range of digital poster that are use as a standalone digital signage solution throughout the world through a network of integrators.
